Brain Gym®
Brain Gym® is a movement-based program, also known as Educational Kinesiology (Edu-K), developed by Dr. Paul Dennison and Gail Dennison. It is grounded in the principle that intentional, designed movements enhance learning by fostering integration between the mind and body. These simple, targeted exercises promote neural connections and activate specific areas of the brain and body, supporting improved focus, coordination, and cognitive processing.
The program features a series of 26 core activities (often referred to as “The 26”), organized into categories that address various needs, such as:
- Grounding and calming to reduce stress and promote emotional regulation
- Enhancing attention, concentration, and whole-brain integration
- Supporting multi-sensory processing for improved academic and daily performance
Similar to our regulation and social-emotional strategies at Dynamic Connections, Brain Gym® emphasizes the holistic integration of physical, emotional, and cognitive domains to optimize learning and well-being for individuals across all ages, including those on the autism spectrum.
